Why would we not mash scrum practices into conventional project management?

I have seen people complain about the interaction of these two approaches as if it were some unworkable solution.

    Objectives

I would think our concern would be predominantly with the successful conclusion of the project, that is meeting the objectives. We must be able to adapt to the advantages we have, and mitigate or reduce the risks to which our project may be subjected. This requires situational project management much like situational management, our strategy, tactics and methods depend upon the situation. In this regard, mashing conventional and agile project approaches may be advantageous.
